Made in Canada is a phrase you see a lot on workwear these days, and it is worth understanding what sits behind it. Not the label itself, but what it means for the garment you are wearing eleven hours into a shift.
For us it comes down to something fairly simple. When you build FR clothing meant to protect people, having the factory close to home changes what you are able to do.

Nearly a hundred years of Canadian manufacturing
We have been manufacturing workwear in Winnipeg since 1928, and we have been a union shop since 1947.
That history left us with something that has become rare in this industry. Real sewing capacity, real pattern makers, and production staff who have worked with flame-resistant fabric long enough to catch something before a quality inspector ever sees it.
We are ISO 9001 certified, which is the formal way of saying the way we build a garment is documented and repeatable. Your order next year matches your order this year. In FR clothing, that consistency is most of the job.
Why we keep manufacturing in Canada
When someone in the field tells us a pocket is tearing out or a hem is giving up early, that goes to people down the hall who can change how it is sewn. The improvement lands in the next production run instead of the next quarter.
That loop stays short because we own the steps in it. We spot something worth improving, we adjust the process, we bring in the equipment, and it shows up in the garment.
It also means stock sits on a shelf rather than on a boat. A new hire in an odd size, a garment torn mid-rotation, a crew that grew faster than anyone planned. Those get handled in a normal week.
What Canadian manufacturing looks like on the garment
Here is where the factory shows up on your body.
Reflective tape
A multi-needle machine lays sew-on tape down flat in a single pass. Flat tape has fewer edges to snag and holds its position through repeated industrial washing. You feel this in year two.
Bartacks
Pocket corners, belt loops, fly openings. Every time you kneel, climb or clip in, the load lands right there. A dedicated bartack machine puts reinforcement exactly where it needs to be, the same way, on every garment.
Seams and hems
Flat seams matter when you have a harness over top or three layers on. Clean hems matter because the hem tends to be where a garment gives out first. We brought in a buttseamer and a coverstitch machine for those two jobs specifically.
Buttons
We recently replaced a button machine that had been running about sixty years. The new one gives a true lockstitch every time, so your shirt closes the way it should in a CAT 2 zone.
None of this makes a spec sheet. All of it shows up around month eighteen.
Built for a longer wear life
FR clothing tends to be a replacement cycle rather than a one-time purchase, so how long a garment stays in service matters as much as what it costs on day one.
That is really what the construction detail above is about. Seams, hems, reinforcement and reflective tape are the parts that decide whether a garment is still doing its job after a couple of years of industrial washing.
We build with that wear life in mind. It is better for the person wearing it and simpler for whoever manages the program.
Still at it
Manufacturing in Canada is a choice, and it is not automatically the easy one. We make it because keeping production close to the people who design the garments, and close to the crews who wear them, is how the garments get better.
