Replacing Your FR Clothing

When to replace your FR/AR PPE and how often?

There are many job sites that require workers to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for a variety of reasons. There are various risks associated with different worksites, including the potential for arc flash, fire, falling objects, loud noise, and others. It is crucial to stay safe at work, and wearing the right equipment can - quite literally - be a life saver.

The initial investment in safety apparel is of critical importance, and a lot of thought and research should be done to make sure you get the right stuff. After your due diligence has been done, and you’re in the process of checking out one of our fine MWG FR garments, you may find yourself wondering – how long before I have to do this again?

At MWG, we pride ourselves in the lifespan of our apparel. Our priority is to provide a garment that keeps you safe – and for a long time. Our garments are designed to withstand decades of wear and tear – and they do – but it is still important to take a closer look on occasion. Our FR clothing may appear as good as new, but upon further inspection, you may want to take a closer look at what seems like normal wear.

If you have been wearing one of our FR or FR/ARC regularly for over a year, here are a few things to look for:

  • Discoloration
  • Material Degradation
  • Rips, tears, holes, cracks, indentions, visible damage
  • Contamination
  • Missing components
  • Failing straps

These are normal occurrences after constant wear, and full replacement is most likely unnecessary, but should be monitored if noticed. A seemingly insignificant blemish could be just that, but could also be the beginning of a larger problem. Keep your eye on it, and be sure to have a plan for repair or replacement if it persists.

We do everything we can to produce a garment that won’t need to be replaced often, but frequent use and regular washing deteriorates even the highest quality garments over time. We recommend performing an audit on your PPE regularly to ensure your garment is performing the way it should be. If an area of concern is identified, we will help to address the issue before any real harm is done. If you have any questions or are having an issue with your PPE, please let us know and we will do everything we can to help. We stand by all of our products, and we want to make sure you remain safe at all times.
